Topic:     Ten Most Distinguishing Habits/Skills To Acquire For A Holistic Living - Part 2

Hello Friends

This is Dr. Jerry - the First alias Dr. JTF.

My one word for 2019 is BELIEVE and I believe in people more than they believe in themselves and my sincere hope is that if you believe in yourself as much as I believe in you-you'll be able to change the World starting from your own corner, right where you are.

My Friday Happy Hour Program is designed to help you on your journey and it is our pleasure to always give a helping hand no matter how little

And as always my friends as you're watching this video, if you hear something that really resonates with you leave it in the comments section, it's much more likely to stick with you.

In the 3rd online edition of the Program held last week Friday - 25th January 2019,
we discussed Part 1 of the Ten Most Distinguishing Habits/Skills To Acquire For A Holistic Living and these were:

Speaking Up,
Being Honest with yourself, Having Confidence,
Listening,
Managing Your Time.

Just in case you did not read it, you can read it all HERE

Today we are taking a look at the last 5 habits

So without taking more time, let's get into the groove

Habit Number Six     -  STOP WHINING

So I have decided to go on a 21-day Challenge which I dubbed No Complain Challenge and which started today and will end on the 21st of February 2019.

In the course of these 21 days, I intend not to whine or complain or criticize, not even to hiss or sigh and I am going to use a jotter and biro to record how many times in the day that I do any of those things I mentioned earlier

I am just going to observe things and let some things to glide by without a comment no matter how angry I may get

I am very much aware that whining, complaining and criticizing are signs of faithlessness, lack of hope and lack of patience.

So I am going to make efforts to acquire those virtues again

I want to encourage you to also embark on a No Complain Challenge for a while even if it's just one week and see how that would impact on your life.

You see, we need to stop whining about what isn't
happening,
what we don't have,
what we can't do, what somebody didn't do and all that

We've got to get it clean in 2019 no whining, no complaining no criticizing

Habit Number Seven - STAYING PRESENT IN THE MOMENT

If you're living in the past you're gonna be depressed because you are rehashing things that happened to you that are not likely going to happen again

If you're living in the future you're gonna be anxious because you are anticipating what's coming
or you're wishing for things that aren't happening yet

Being in the present is where the gold is
Being in the present moment is where you will have the greatest control, where you will feel the most at ease and, where happiness flourishes

There's a super-tight connection between happiness and the ability to live in the present moment.

A lot of people believe that happiness is tied to the things that happen to them but it's not so at all

In fact, there is a professor of positive Psychology he's one of the grandfather's of the movement he teaches at the University of Pennsylvania his name is Martin Settlement and he studied happiness for decades

Now one of the things that we've talked about a lot is that 40% of your happiness levels are preset by genetics 60 percent you are in complete control of and one of the things that this Professor has discovered is that it doesn't matter what's happened to you, in fact, some of the people that have had the worst things happen to them like people that have survived the Holocaust are actually the happiest and most grateful people in the world.

Happiness comes down to this right up here
comes down to your thoughts
comes down to your mindset
it comes down to your attitude and you are 100% in control of what you're thinking

you may not be in control of how you feel in the moment but you can always be in control of what you think and that will change how you're feeling

One of the most powerful things that you can do in terms of being present in the now, the moment is to think.

So, the question becomes how can you be present in the moment?

Being present in the moment is literally nothing more than the skill of having your thoughts be in this moment not in the past not in the future but right here
The way that you teach yourself how to do that is, the moment that you catch yourself being distracted,  the moment you catch yourself starting to worry the moment you catch yourself, drifting to the future, drifting to the past that's a moment of tremendous power because you basically just woke up, you basically just noticed that you're not
here in this particular moment so use that wake-up call 5 4 3 2 1 and ground yourself in this moment

The best way to ground yourself in the moment is to look for something in this particular moment that you can savor.
Now I'm using the word savor on purpose because it's the word that Psychologists use to describe what happens when you find something in this moment right now, right here right now to focus on and to appreciate

It could literally be the questions from people on social media and if I were to stop and look at these and savor them, what I would feel in this moment is a tremendous amount of gratitude because people are taking the time to write and that makes me feel incredibly grateful

And it also makes me very happy because it means that that the folks that are writing are taking control of their lives and seeking out the information that they need.

Another form of savoring that we can all relate to is eating

As you're eating instead of drifting to the future and
thinking about all the things that you need to do or hanging out in the past and rehashing everything that's happened during the day

be in this moment in this meal
slow down think about the food that you're eating
think about the people that you're sitting with and how you feel about them and if you want to take
it up a notch higher, actually acknowledge that this food tastes amazing thank you for cooking or I'm so glad to see you and that we get the time to have this meal together

Those small simple acts of savoring are how you expand your happiness inside the present moment

So how do you get to be more present in the moment?

Simple
the moment that you catch yourself in the future, or in the past worrying about what is yet to happen or regretting what has already happened, simply  refocus yourself right here right now and then find something right here right now that you can savor and when you do
that you're not only going to be present, you're gonna feel more grateful and you're gonna feel a little boost to happiness

Habit Number Eight ---       BEING CONSISTENT

Success is not is not a destination

People always think that oh my god this person is so successful because they've had a successful movie or successful show or stuff like that but success is a journey you have to be consistently successful in whatever your hands find to do.

When you succeed once, succeed twice, succeed thrice in many areas of life, then that's when you're
really successful because otherwise you'll be remembered for your last failure.

And if you have tasted failure before, I too had I had a few but I just have to compensate for my failure by just getting up and running.

The more time you take to sort of mourn your failure, the more time you waste on your road to success

So you just have to pick yourself up dust yourself off and just say I work what I can do to always find a solution

People always get mistaken that just because the year before was successful, that then means that this year has to be successful, this is very far from the truth. It's only if one consistently does what brings success that he can continuously be successful

So success is not a destination

It's just like Power
Power is transient and ephemeral so no one can actually say he is powerful all the time unless otherwise he consistently does those things that make power remain one place for a long time and that long time is the journey.

Habit Number Nine - - -  GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP

When the Doctors say you should get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, they know just exactly what they are talking about.

If you always get 8 hours of sleep a night, then you can be said to be having enough sleep.

If the day comes when you do not have enough sleep, you know that it is already a spoilt day because not only will you be disoriented all day long but you would also be very irritable and constantly yawning due to sleep deficit.

You would also be tired and getting in and out of short term sleep which is very frustrating.

So, in order to avoid these side effects of not having enough sleep, endeavour to always sleep at least 8 hours every night.

That will help you enjoy your day

Habit Number Ten  - - - - HAVING EMPATHY

In the battle of the genders, it does appear that the females are more wired to be empathic than the males.

Being empathic means putting oneself in the position of the person being empathized with; this is quite different from sympathy which happens from the outside

Empathy happens from the inside

In movie theatres and cinemas, the females tend to cry along with the lead actress, and also feel her pains and sorrows as if they were theirs so they feel that it's happening to them at the same time.

It's a very mysterious and valuable resource of the human species and women I think access it most effortlessly.

They cry at sad movies and it doesn't matter what their positions or status may be neither do they feel that they will lose face if they cry in public.

Sometimes, it's even a breaking news story and they would instantly transport themselves in thought and feelings to the victims affected, they feel enraged and sorely angered and vent their anger writing letters through tears with their hearts
pounding

Sometimes I used to wonder why human beings developed these inconvenient and embarrassing responses, this sniffling, choking wet obstruction
which could make one go without food and water.

But you know the last thing that Physicians, Soldiers, Stock Brokers, Journalists, Fashion models, Politicians, News Casters and Commentators, and Venture Capitalists want to be associated with is Empathy

They all must suppress it in order to work most efficiently.

I have often thought of the possible value and function that empathy could serve in the Darwinian scheme of know survival of the fittest which seems to suggest and support that the strongest and the most heavily armed are the ones that actually do survive.

Seriously I thought why and how did we evolve with this weak passion right in the deep recesses of our hearts and the answer as I've formulated to myself is that empathy is the engine that powers all the best in us.

It is what civilizes us

It is what connects us to all of humanity

Thank you guys so much for watching I hope you enjoyed.
